#2: Italian Fashion, from Florence to the whole world
In English — Friday, June 17th 2011 — 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Tuition: Free — RSVP CLOSED
Fashion has always been an important part of the culture of Italy and its society. Italians are well known for their attention to dressing-up well. The so-called "la bella figura", or good impression, remains traditional in the Italian way of living. Attending Il Circolo events will give you a unique and invaluable insight into Italy and her folklore that not only complements learning the language, but will equip you with a full understanding of the Italian approach to life. The story of modern Italian fashion began on February 25th, 1951 in Florence, when Count Giorgini staged a fashion show for an international audience. From this event we will unravel the fascinating evolution of Italian fashion through the decades, designer, styles, fashion photographers and models, up to today. Although history and society are closely connected to fashion, territoriality is also an important factor, indeed the seminars will browse the main cities and centers where fashion takes place. With Milan and Tuscany as production centers and Venice, Rome, Sicily, and Florence as inspirational landmarks in the evolution of the Italian aesthetic, the growth and influence of Italian fashion is ever present. "Made in Italy" is today one of the most recognizable stamps of quality and innovation in contemporary fashion.
